Filming in Lacock

Over the past few years Lacock village & Abbey have been home to many popular Television series & blockbuster films.

Jane Austen's well-known novels, 'Emma' and 'Pride & Prejudice' are some of the collection that have been filmed here in Lacock, with some of our own team playing small parts as extras! The most recent filming was the BBC Drama series, The Cranford Cronicles, starring Dame Judi Dench, Eileen Atkins, Philip Glenister, Alex Etel and many more famous actors. The front of The Red Lion was transformed into a shop throughout the duration of the filming amongst many other houses being used for scenes.

Our most famous filming to date is the world class collection of Harry Potter films.

The Harry Potter books and films by J.K.Rowling have become a worldwide phenomenon. Lacock Abbey was used as a backdrop for many of the scenes in the first two films - 'Harry Potter & The Philosophers Stone' and 'Harry Potter & The Chamber of Secrets'. The Abbey cloisters and side rooms were transformed into the classrooms at Hogwarts School, whilst the location was also used for Harry's discovery of 'The Mirror of Erised', which enabled him to see his deceased parents in the second film.
